About Our Shipping:
Because
we have so many items for you to purchase (about
1600 different items), we have come up with what
we hope is a simplified system of ordering.
For the Unsecured Web Catalog: There is an order page for groupings
of products. Please fill out one of these order forms completely. If you
do order on another order form that day you need only to insert your name
on that order for us to identify you as the purchaser. All orders that are
sent today will be read the next morning, consolidated and shipped together
usually that day or the next business day.
For the Secured Web Site: Just follow along, fill in the blanks
and that's it.
For
orders form the Continental United States (the
48 States).
For
orders from Hawaii and Alaska
For
orders from Puerto Rico
For
orders from outside the United States, Hawaii,
Alaska and Puerto Rico...meaning all other
places including Canada, Mexico, etc.
For
those interested in purchasing for resale larger
quantities of merchandise.
ORDERS
From the Continental United States (the 48
states)
1.
We ask that you purchase a minimum of $20.00
worth plus shipping. On any orders under $20.00
we charge $15.00 to process that small an order. This
is due to the ever rising costs of filling, packing
and processing of an order. It basically
costs just as much to fill a small, simple order
as a much larger order.

These are Our Shipping Charges for UPS Ground Service.
Under $20.00.......$15.00 charge to cover all our processing charges.

3. Our
Shipping Charges: We have
a big problem with UPS weights and its relation
to the amount we charge you for shipping. A
bag of potting medium for $12.50 will weigh about
26 pounds. A tool that costs $12.50 may
weigh 4 ounces. To charge you the appropriate
amount for shipping is extremely difficult. We
truly agonize over this. It does sound
strange, funny that we have spend so much time
worrying, fretting about our shipping charges. We
have a good handle on all aspects of our Bonsai
Supply Business, except this one. We have
been shipping merchandise from the late '60's
(then there was no UPS..just bus and air). Prior
to the advent of the Internet and its fabulous
opportunity for you and I to rendezvous via a
computer, we accepted orders by mail and the
telephone. Then it was more personal and
informal (we strive not to lose the personal
touch even when you and I are only making contact
via computer).
Back then you placed the order by mail and added 20% to the total
amount of the order for shipping. When we sent out the order, we either
refunded any excess amount of money in a refund check or stated on the invoice
that a certain amount was still owing. Back then when you called in
an order, we would tell you that we would add whatever UPS charged us plus
a shipping/boxing charge of $4.00 or $5.00.
Now we use software that will only use a dollar amount category to
add in the shipping charges. Yes, this does make it "easy" for
you to know the shipping charge on your order, but is also sometimes way
off in the actual amount charged for shipping.
Other services such as 3
Day, 2 Day and Overnight are available, but we then get into Air Shipments
and dimensional weight. Please contact us at 1 800 982 1223 if you
prefer that service and I will discuss the details with you.
ORDERS
FROM HAWAII & ALASKA
No Minimum
Order Amount.
The shipping charges are the boxing charges + UPS charges.
We will override the Shipping Charges shown on your Order Form and apply the
following items for your shipping charges:
1. The Boxing Charge is $5.00 per box
2. We ship ONLY by UPS which means we no longer ship by US Postal Service. Using
the US Postal Service is a customer service that is too demanding of our time. With
business growing as astronomically as it is we are stretching our talents too
much by wasting time going to the Post Office and standing in line after we
have done all the preparation work already. UPS comes to our warehouse
every day to pick up all our packages
What does this mean to you...our customer???
Well, the following are some samples the UPS rates for Hawaii and Alaska..
Remember there are no ground rates or 3 day select rates from Texas to Hawaii
or to Alaska
This means that the least expensive rate is 2 day air.
1 pound is $23.75
2 pounds is $25.25
3 pounds is $26.75
4 pounds is $28.25
5 pounds is $29.75
10 pounds is $37.25
15 pounds is $44.75
20 pounds is $52.25
We then get involved with dimensional weight...which means the box size. Here
is an example of a box that we recently sent
to Alaska: The box actually weighed 8 pounds and had one set of ceramic
pots and 11 other items. The box's dimensions
were 14" x 12" x 13" which divided by UPS dimensional divider
of 194 comes up to 12 pounds. Thus we charged the customer for 12 pounds
as the box size (dimensional weight size) was larger than the actual weight
of the shipment.
In other words, it takes up 12 pounds of space in their cargo hold even though
it weighs only 8 pounds.
Shipping
Charge Estimates- $35.00 payable in advance....We
cannot estimate the actual shipping charges until
we pull the order and then pack it in the appropriate
box. We then can weigh it and measure its
dimensions. Only then can we say what the
package will cost to ship. Sorry, we cannot
do this for free. If you want us to give
you the exact costs of shipping we will charge
you a $35.00 service charge in advance to give
you this information. That $35.00 service
charge will be credited to your total order if
you do decide to place the order. Why do
we sound so mercenary??? We just had a group
from Trinidad who placed and order and wanted a
pro forma invoice sent to them along with the shipping
costs. It was a $400.00 order. It took
about 1 1/2 hours of our time to pull the order,
pack the order, weigh the boxes, prepare the documents,
etc. Then...what did they say? Well
the shipping charge was too much and they will
get back with me. I understand that, but
I also understand that we spent 1 1/2 hours for
nothing and another amount of time putting the
merchandise back in stock. This was a waste
of productive time that could be spent filling
orders and taking care of domestic customers which
is a whale of a lot easier and much more fun.

WHOLESALE ORDERS
We do wholesale
our supplies to legitimate retailers. We do not wholesale
live Bonsai plants. We zealously strive to sell wholesale
only to persons who will resell to retail customers.
