May we wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!

As we look back on 2006 we are gratified to think of all the people we have met, either by email or in person, and helped along the way to enjoy the wonderful hobby of Bonsai. After all that’s what its all about. Helping you by offering you a selection of products available no place else in the world. You might say that we are fanatics in this respect. We want to be able to offer you everything Bonsai from A-annealed copper wire to Z – zeolite. We do appreciate your feedback and try to answer each and every email that we receive.

We have been in the business of Bonsai since 1965 and find each day filled with experiences that are in every way a compounding of appreciation for instructing new enthusiastic Bonsai hobbyists along with the more experienced in the field. We fully anticipate that this year of 2007 will build upon this.

Just what do we need to be aware of during the month of January???

This month and February we are in a holding pattern. Just trying to hold on. Not much light and desert dry air make for a tough time for Indoor Bonsai and really low, low temperatures outside don’t help our Bonsai we try to keep outside.

January and February are the toughest months for Bonsai.

Indoor: Be sure to check your Bonsai daily for dry soil, effects of low light and pests. Keep your soil evenly moist…which means damp, but not soggy wet. If your Bonsai appears to be losing leaves in the interior part of its branches it’s because it is not receiving enough light. You may need to add a plant light or move the Bonsai to a higher light location.

Outdoor: It’s what you don’t see by casual observation that may do your Bonsai in. Your Bonsai’s most important area of consideration should be the roots and therefore the soil. Be sure your outside Bonsai’s roots are enclosed in soil and the soil is moist. Just because the Bonsai is dormant doesn’t mean that its roots don’t need a small bit of moisture to sustain them. The pot can crack in low temperatures and various varmints can eat the delicious roots.

Hopefully you got everything on your Bonsai wish list for Christmas.

Here are a few items that most people wouldn’t include on their list, yet they are still much needed items…

How about some soil scoops? They will come in very handy when you start repotting in just a few weeks. What about Akadama for your special trees and Kanuma for your azaleas? Be sure to have an adequate supply of annealed copper wire or copper colored aluminum wire on hand when you start your projects. Don’t forget drainage mesh either. And of course now is the optimum time to acquire your Japanese Bonsai seeds for stratification.

So...do what many of our customers are now doing...namely...ordering soil, new pots and all things necessary for the Spring Potting Season which is just around the corner.

Please don't procrastinate.....These things creep up on us all....It's really stressful on our customer and us when we have to ship out 50 pounds of potting medium via overnight express......whew! Be a good Girl Scout and good Boy Scout and be prepared.

What’s happening here at Dallas Bonsai Garden, Your Bonsai Supply Superstore!

New items of excitement… a passel of DVDs, new books, the new Kokufu book, and every tool that Masakuni has…It will take us a while to get all of these items up because of the picture taking, but we hope to have them up this month. So…stay tuned!
