Well, what about this month?

Gosh, while reading this email you will notice all around you cold, cold temperatures and horrifying wind chills.  This is a baaaaad month for Bonsai.   We get more calls this month than any other month about Bonsai that are either dead or on their way to Heaven.  Why are there more dead Bonsai this month than others?  Well, two things that we harp on so much…light and water…

  1. Many Bonsai have survived through December and January but just don’t have any resistance left to survive through February.  There just hasn’t been enough light for them to have any strength left to go any farther.  You will notice that the Bonsai that have survived have had enough light to sustain themselves until February and March arrive. Now just what does that mean to you and your Bonsai?  It may be too late for some of your Bonsai fellow travelers, but remember this cruel lesson for next year.  Provide lots of light so that your Bonsai can move through these months without so much stress.
  2. Water.  We have lectured you on this virtually every month.  This month is certainly no exception to that.  Remember that your heating system for your home is putting out nice warmth, but it’s at desert humidity.  This means that your Bonsai will dry out ever so quickly both above and below ground.  If you have the means to mist your Bonsai then by all means do this. Keep your soil moist but not soggy.

If you can remember these two items and can adequately protect your Bonsai during this period you will be rewarded with fantastic new growth and beauty that will appear just around the corner.

What’s happening at Dallas Bonsai Garden

Bonsai PotIn just a few weeks we will be getting a new group of deep plastic Bonsai pots.  They are deeper and really look nice.  They look like terra cotta ceramic Bonsai pots.  They’ve done a really fantastic job at copying the ceramic pots from Japan.  The sizes are from about 8” up to 19”.  They are not flimsy, but thick walled.  As soon as we receive them we will notify you.
And we just got in Kinbon magazine.  This is the number 1 Bonsai magazine in the world!!!
Now we have the top three Bonsai magazines:

  1. Kinbon – which licenced some of their articles to Bonsai Today –  which translated them into English and other languages.
  2. Bonsai World – another Japanese magazine specifically focused on Bonsai.
  3. Bonsai Europe – the best English language Bonsai magazine.

Why are we working so hard to get all these magazines for you?  Well, we want you to have a choice, just like we offer you in Bonsai tools and supplies.  We want you to have all the perspectives of the greatest Bonsai magazines in the world.

There are other Japanese tools and supplies on the way very soon to us.  As soon as we receive them we will sound off so that you can see all these exciting offers!!!
