| Mother Nature is playing games with us now |
Well, here we are in March and we’re still experiencing heavy snows in many parts of the country. But, spring is right around the corner even if Mother Nature is playing games with us now.
You really need to have your Bonsai ready for the spring growing season. This may mean that some Bonsai that have not been root pruned in a while may need it this year. You may need to increase the size of your Bonsai pot. You may need to refresh the soil surrounding your Bonsai. And you do need to start fertilizing now so that your Bonsai’s roots will have the strength to really get into the action this spring.
| Our suggestions for this month of March are: |
| 1. |
Get your pots ready if you haven’t transplanted already. |
2. |
Have plenty of Bonsai soil (potting medium) ready when you need it. Be a good Boyscout/Girlscout and be prepared. |
3. |
Start thinking about fertilizers for the Spring/Summer seasons. Fertilizers are extremely important to your Bonsai during this “coming out” season even for evergreens as they wake up from their winter hibernation. |
4. |
Think about a pruning tool, wound sealant, wire and branch benders. Of course you can prune any time of the year, but your Bonsai will recover much more quickly this time of the year. |
And please do enjoy your Bonsai. Keep them in good health and they will reward you in many ways.
