Spring
is bursting out all over this great United States!
This is wonderful time to enjoy your Bonsai and
to treat them to a portion of your time during
your Spring Cleaning chores.
Let’s
pull out your tools and implements and get them
ready for the tasks that will soon await you.
Soon, or maybe already, you need to prune and
possibly remove some branches or foliage.
We
want to remind you that you need to keep your
tools well oiled and in a location that is not
too humid so as to avoid rust. Our tools are
the very best Bonsai tools available anywhere,
but to keep them in tip top condition you need
to spend only a few moments of your time coating
them with oil and removing any residue that may
have accumulated during their use. The easiest
way for us to accomplish this task is to have
a discarded washrag on hand when we are using
our Bonsai tools. We also have about a 3” by 3” piece
of rag that is soaked in machine oil. We clean
our tools after use, being especially careful
to remove any sap that has accumulated on the
blades, and wipe them all over with the oil soaked
rag. This dirty little oil rag is placed in a
plastic bag awaiting its use another day.
During
these Spring Cleaning chores you may want to
think about changing your decorations that you
use with your Bonsai. Have you thought about changing
your cameo of say a fisherman to say a hut and
a smaller figure that would be to scale? These
small changes can make a difference in your Bonsai’s
appearance. We have some excellent decorative
rocks that will certainly add a natural appearance
to the area surrounding your Bonsai. These
Japanese decorative
rocks are a very positive addition.
A more radical idea is changing the container
color or shape. This is an extreme, but can be
useful to you in your study of just what style
of container or color of container would be most
appropriate or most effective to the overall appearance
of your Bonsai.
