Spring is bursting out all over this great United States!

This is wonderful time to enjoy your Bonsai and to treat them to a portion of your time during your Spring Cleaning chores.

Let’s pull out your tools and implements and get them ready for the tasks that will soon await you. Soon, or maybe already, you need to prune and possibly remove some branches or foliage.

We want to remind you that you need to keep your tools well oiled and in a location that is not too humid so as to avoid rust. Our tools are the very best Bonsai tools available anywhere, but to keep them in tip top condition you need to spend only a few moments of your time coating them with oil and removing any residue that may have accumulated during their use. The easiest way for us to accomplish this task is to have a discarded washrag on hand when we are using our Bonsai tools. We also have about a 3” by 3” piece of rag that is soaked in machine oil. We clean our tools after use, being especially careful to remove any sap that has accumulated on the blades, and wipe them all over with the oil soaked rag. This dirty little oil rag is placed in a plastic bag awaiting its use another day.

During these Spring Cleaning chores you may want to think about changing your decorations that you use with your Bonsai. Have you thought about changing your cameo of say a fisherman to say a hut and a smaller figure that would be to scale? These small changes can make a difference in your Bonsai’s appearance. We have some excellent decorative rocks that will certainly add a natural appearance to the area surrounding your Bonsai. These Japanese decorative rocks are a very positive addition.
A more radical idea is changing the container color or shape. This is an extreme, but can be useful to you in your study of just what style of container or color of container would be most appropriate or most effective to the overall appearance of your Bonsai.

What's happening here at Dallas Bonsai Garden...

We have received a number of new books that would be extremely helpful to you. They are detailed in the English and Japanese Book sections of our online catalog.
And ……… Finally… We have many, many more Masakuni tools and are proud to be their distributor for the Americas.  We also have a new wire reel that helps those Bonsai hobbyists that need a number of wire dimensions.  This will keep the wire from tangling up and becoming a mess.  Thirty or so new saws that will fill the bill for those Bonsai hobbyists who have more than just a small Bonsai.  A new multiple soil sifter that will sift three grades of potting mixes at one time.  This item won’t be up for a few days because we need to do some detailed pictures.  Some older issues of the World Famous Kokufu exhibition.  A new galvanized watering can from Japan.  Some gardening shears.  Many new pruning compounds and grafting materials.  A very hard Kanuma.  A bagged Bonsai mix (mixed and bagged in Japan) that is 70% hard grain akadama soil, 10% fuji sand, 10% kiryusuna sand and 10% Hyuga sand.
A soil additive that is basically activated charcoal in a prilled form.  And some more stuff too…but, we wait until we can get some pictures up for you to detail them.  Stay tuned…
