That’s
right! Think about Water.
Remember this time of year is quite difficult for
your Bonsai as it pertains to it receiving adequate
moisture. It’s hot……sometimes above
90 degrees. Most Bonsai stop their respiration at
about this temperature in order to preserve their
moisture within their leaves, branches, trunk and
roots. Their pores just close up. What can you do
to assist your Bonsai during these stressful times?
Well – water.
This seems like a simple thing, but we all do get
busy and forget from time to time. You need to get
in the routine of checking your Bonsai daily and watering
daily if needed. Keep the soil evenly moist, but not
wet and soggy. With a potting medium that has excellent
drainage you won’t get root damage from too
much watering. The water will flush through and rewet
areas of the potting medium that have dried out.
It’s like having a puppy dog or pussy cat –
the Bonsai need daily care. If you neglect the watering
your Bonsai will suffer and you will in turn suffer
from having a Bonsai display wilted/dead leaves and
even death to the Bonsai from lack of water.
Here in Dallas, Texas, we water twice daily all of
our outside Bonsai. When it gets up to the 100 degree
days we will water 4 times a day to insure they have
adequate moisture in their root system. How do we
water 4 times a day and still have a life? Well, twice
a day is done by an automatic watering system and
we water before we go to the warehouse and water again
when we return home in the evening. It’s not
any different from what you would do if you had a
pet in your household.
Check the water. This is a simple chore that will
become an extremely useful/important habit.
Here’s
an important reminder – The Japanese Watering
Containers we have up on our website have spray heads
with very small openings for the water to exit and
in turn shower your Bonsai with. If you are encountering
problems with your present watering container digging
holes in your soil when you water then you really
do need to consider
our offerings.
And
now to tell you what’s happening here at Dallas
Bonsai Garden….
