Well, we really don’t have to remind you that it’s hot. Just stick your head out the door and you’ll find that out. We must remind you that during these times of extreme heat you must water your Bonsai more than you normally would. Here in Dallas, Texas, we are watering our Bonsai twice daily – before we go to work and after we return from work. Please understand that with our fast draining soils the moisture just doesn’t stay in the area around the Bonsai’s roots very long.

Remember that your Bonsai are just like any other “pet”. You’ve got to check their water and see if they are doing OK – just like you would for your dog or cat or other living creature. Bonsai usually shut down all activity when the temperatures reach 85° F or so. They do this to conserve their supply of water within the plant. Please don’t feel that watering is an oppressive task. Just add this to your normal routines. You’re doing this so that your Bonsai will live and flourish.

What’s happening here at Dallas Bonsai Garden . . .

1. A new feature for you to track your orders once they leave our warehouse. We have added order status to our ordering software. This link has been added to your order confirmation email that you receive once you’ve placed an order with Dallas Bonsai Garden. Just keep this email and after a day or so you can click on this link. After entering your order number and zipcode you will see a link that goes directly to the United Parcel Service (UPS) Website. There you can see where your package is and when it will be delivered. We also have a link on the Home Page of dallasbonsai.com. This link is on the left side of the page. The title of this link is Order Status and it’s just above the Bonsai Resources portion of the front page. We are sure this will help our customers to schedule their time and to be aware of just when they can expect their merchandise.
2. A big congratulations to Harry Harrington on his win of the Dallas Bonsai/BonsaiSite.com Bonsai Picture Competition . There is another competition open now and we urge you to submit your photos of your Bonsai. With the advent of the internet, our hobby has become a WWW (whole wide world) event with virtually no boundaries to our visual appreciation of Bonsai. We do hope that this will be an incentive to you and others to share knowledge and artistry with others. We so often see only Bonsai Masters and their beautiful creations. It really is important to see and understand other Bonsai from persons who have created beauty from plants that are diamonds in the rough. Again Congratulations!
3. We encourage you to forward any tips and tricks to us here at Dallas Bonsai Garden and we will happily share them with all our friends.

The Tip of the Month comes from Dick Miraglia

I mix my dilute fertilizer solutions in 5 gallon Coleman Camping Plastic water and drink containers. They have a spout and are handy to have the correct solution ready mixed and ready to go into my watering can as needed. It is always at room temperature this way. I like to put a few drops of Superthrive into my water occasionally But the cap is always stuck to the bottle and it's hard to measure out a "few drops". I solved this problem by putting some Superthrive in an old plastic eye drop bottle.(Like Visine) Now, it's real easy to put a few drops in a watering can!

Thanks Dick, excellent tips!
4. As the result of our requests for items of interest to our Bonsai Hobbyists, we are very happy to showcase an extremely informative article on wiring by Tom Mozden. Wiring is one of the items that is a puzzlement to most persons new to Bonsai. It’s like root pruning and top pruning. We know we’ve got to do it, but we just don’t know how to get started. And once we’ve put the wire on the table with our Bonsai, we think to ourselves – “what’s next???”. This article will really help one and all. Tom, we thank you for sharing your talents. Read Article
5. New Items in our warehouse. We have some great new items from Japan to show you this month and next. We have over 40 new items and we will be presenting them to you as fast as we can get the products up on our web catalog. Ones that are up now are new wound sealant for Bonsai in the Chemical section of Bonsai supplies, new Tokoname pots in some beautiful glazes and textures, Oiso sand which is like no other sand here in the USA. There are new tools and supplies which we will get up very soon. Check out our new items page for these great items from Japan.

Again, we thank you for your patronage. We do appreciate you and work hard to be your Bonsai Supply Superstore.
