We’re in the DDSS days now. Different Day – Same Stuff. Here it is August and we’re still expounding on the fact that it’s hot (as if you didn’t know that already yet!). Your Bonsai does need special attention during these times because of heat stress which equates into water stress. We could go over this again, but we suggest that you go back to last month’s email and review the problems that heat causes your Bonsai.

Just don’t forget to check your watering regimen to be sure that you are providing your Bonsai with adequate moisture and adequate protection from the broiling sun.

Now, let’s tell you what’s happening at the Dallas Bonsai Garden website.

We’ve given a new look to some of our pages in the Dallas Bonsai Garden Online Catalog. This is, of course, an ongoing thing and many of the changes you may not notice as they are tweaking this product or that page. But, there are some items that you suggested and we are listening and improving our response to them to assist you in the hobby of Bonsai.

1. The Bonsai Care Guide. This is a guide that we used to give out to our customers who were purchasing Bonsai from us. We printed literally thousands of these over the 38+ years we have been selling Bonsai. Certainly it can’t give you as much information as can a 200 page book, but it boils down into crisp, concise language the principals that you must adhere to in order to maintain your Bonsai. With our lives becoming more and more filled with pressures on our time and still having only 24 hours in any day it is imperative to remember some facts that are really important – and this small guide does this for you. I hope you read it over and over again and then periodically read it again to remind you of possibly forgotten facts that are important. P.S. - We’ve provided a PDF file for you so that you can print you out a copy to tape to your refrigerator or use as a bookmark in your files on your Bonsai.

2. The Bonsai Gallery. Over the years we have accumulated a photo album of outstanding Bonsai specimens. You’ve asked us to share it with you and we are starting to put up a page a month for you. Why is this so important? Well, it’s inspirational. You look at these Bonsai masterpieces through several lenses – one is envy (I know!) Gosh! I wish I had one just like that. The second is really more important than our covetousness. That is the specifics that the image the Bonsai specimen exhibits to us in form and character. It is extremely important for us to see perfect specimens and use them as guidelines as we shape and prune our own Bonsai. It’s the same in all artistic hobbies. There are principals that are general in nature that we must adhere to, but there are as many exceptions to the rules as there are rules. You’ll see this in The Bonsai Gallery. Bookmark this page and go back and back and back for inspiration.

3. FAQ. The Frequently Asked Questions Section of the Dallas Bonsai Garden Online Catalog. Again, we have been accumulating emails from you over the years that are really good questions. They are in words that you, our customers, used to ask us questions. These are not contrived, but are actually emails that we have received from you. Some questions are general, some specific – but all quite good. We do hope that the FAQ section will assist you in answering questions that you would have asked us if you had the time to do so. We find that a question and the answer can be much more helpful than a lot of book verbiage on subjects that are of no interest to you at this particular moment.

Now let’s talk about the new and exciting stuff that’s happening at our Dallas Bonsai Garden Warehouse.

Well first – We received a container of Chinese Figures. Lots of new ones that we must take pictures of. Karate, Tai Chi, 5” items, 4” items, dragons, lions, elephants and…would you believe a set of 35 – Yes 35 different poses of 1” glazed men!!!. Amazing! The next container will have a set of 57 different poses (couldn’t do it this time because of time constraints).

Second – some new Bonsai books in English. The Wisley Bonsai Book, The Bonsai Handbook and just in this last week – Bonsai School. Go to Bonsai Books in English Section to see details on the new helpers.

Thirdly – at the end of this month we’ll have over 190 different Tokoname pots back in stock, a complete selection of Masakuni tools (67 different ones – at affordable prices), the Maple Book, All available Kokufu books – from memory – about 31 years are still available, two books on variegated plants (my weakness-my vice), and back in stock the Japanese books on conifers and junipers which sold out immediately upon arrival.

We’ll announce their arrival as soon as we can so that you won’t miss out on the excitement.

Again thank you for your patronage. And….Happy Bonsaiing!!!

Sincerely,
Fred & Elizabeth Meyer,
