| WC96 - 5 Liter Galvanized Steel Japanese Watering Container. 5 Liter = a little over 5 quarts. 23" overall. The watering can is 9" across and 7 1/2" high with an overall length of 23" with snout. 19" without spray nozzle. 2 1/2" handle. Wonderful up-turned spray nozzle delivers a gentle rain like spray.
I was speaking with my tool supplier Kunio over in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Japan several months ago. He was telling me that the 5 liter watering can I had been purchasing had changed because an employee in the factory was experimenting with the nozzle on his own time. He was hoping to create a more gentle spray that really soaked his plants easier. It worked so well, he decided to show the owner of the company. The owner liked it so much, he recalibrated the machinery to incorporate the change into the can. Apparently, the employee was trying to make the can simulate rain more closely and give a wider spray pattern that is easier to direct on a plant, yet still gentle. When Kunio was telling me this I remembered how the Japanese typically live in apartments and they all garden on their balconies. Then I imagined that he changed the can because when he used it at home, he was pouring so much water onto his porch it was running down onto his neighbors indoor/outdoor furniture and the guy was yelling at him and banging a broom on the ceiling. I don't know if that's true, but I'm prone to flights of fancy. Anyway, this watering can is a fine example of Japanese quality. They are constantly striving to improve their products and create items of the highest quality – anything else lacks honor.  A close-up of the fine spray holes in the nozzle.
